The fifth annual Big Lunch will take place on Sunday 2nd June and to celebrate one Northern Ireland Big Lunch will win £1000 to spend on improving life in their neighbourhood or wider community.
The Big Lunch is a one-day get together for neighbours, an idea from the Eden Project made possible by the Big Lottery Fund and sponsored by ASDA, Kingsmill and Mastercard.
Every year neighbours across the UK come together for a few hours of food, friendship and fun. The aim is to create stronger, friendlier more resilient communities where we get actively involved in our local areas and share more; from conversations and friendship to skills, tools and resources.
Anyone can host a Big Lunch and we offer lots of help, ideas and advice. Your Big Lunch can be any size you want it to be, from a few neighbours in your garden to a whole community. The Big Lunch background Information
This fifth year is special for The Big Lunch because it follows a year of unprecedented success in 2012 when 8.5 million people across the UK attended Big Jubilee Lunches and Big Lunches in their streets and neighbourhoods.
In 2012 over 1,855 people from across Northern Ireland ordered Big Lunch packs to host all kinds of Big Lunches. There were Big Jubilee picnics and Olympic Torch Relay Big Lunches hosted by local councils and community organisations attended by thousands to much smaller get togethers organised and attended by local community groups and neighbours.

We want to be able to continue the progress made last year and we hope everyone will join in and have fun again in 2013. We know that during the planning of Big Lunches and on the actual day, good conversations happen and they can lead on to positive community action. We aim to support the realisation of these ideas and encourage everyone to get more involved in community life.
Competition terms and conditions
- This competition is open to all residents of Northern Ireland aged 18 years or over who have registered for a Free Big Lunch pack and intend to host a Big Lunch in 2013.
- Individuals can enter this competition only once.
- The competition opens for submissions on the 25 January 2013 and closes for submissions at 11.59pm on 19 June 2013.
- The winner will be required to account for what they want to spend the £1000 on and will be asked to provide receipts/shopping list to ensure the money is spent correctly,
- Funds will be spent directly by The Big Lunch NI representative on items identified or receipts/ invoices provided by the winner by September 2013.
- From all of the eligible entrants, The Big Lunch PR team will choose a Big Lunch winner by 20 June 2013
- The chosen Big Lunch winner will be notified by phone and will be asked to accept publicity terms as part of acceptance of the prize.
- All entrants hereby agree that content of their entry can be published by The Big Lunch and or The Eden project’s online channels and in the media as part of competition promotion.
- The Big Lunch reserves the right to withhold prize funds in the event of non-compliance with these terms and conditions.
- All entry instructions form part of these terms and conditions. By entering the competition all entrants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by these terms and conditions and by any other requirements set out in the promotional material. Non-compliance may render you ineligible to receive the prize.
- All entrants acknowledge that, in the course of applying for this competition, certain information about them will be captured, electronically or otherwise, and will be shared with our PR partners associated with the competition.
- The Eden Project’s Big Lunch manager’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
